Byrrh Grand Quinquina Aperitif

Byrrh (pronounced "beer") Grand Quinquina is a French aperitif wine made in Thuir, in the Roussillon near the Spanish border, since 1866, and its cellars house the largest oak vat in the world. Grand Quinquina is the original recipe: the finest cinchona (quinquina) barks from South America are blended with plants and spices from around the world and macerated in small oak barrels with generous red wines enriched with fruity, elegant Muscat mistelles. The mistelles provide natural sweetness with no added sugar. Bottled at 18% ABV in a 750ml bottle.

The taste is a balance of freshness, fruit and spice: red fruit and Muscat sweetness, dried orange, cocoa and a gentle quinine bitterness on a smooth, wine-like body. Serve it chilled or over ice with a twist as an aperitif, add soda or tonic for a spritz, or use it in place of sweet vermouth in a Manhattan or Negroni.
