Zapopan Reposado is a 100% blue Weber agave tequila from Fábrica de Tequilas Finos, NOM 1472, in the town of Tequila in the Jalisco lowlands, a large contract distillery behind many value and private-label brands, and it has been a fixture of the budget tequila aisle for years. The production is the standard lowland volume process: blue agave cooked in a high-pressure autoclave, shredded on a roller mill, fermented in stainless steel tanks and distilled twice in stainless steel pot stills, then rested in oak barrels long enough to qualify as a reposado, which under Mexican law means at least two months, before bottling at 40% ABV (80 proof). The oak rest is short and light, so the agave still leads; reviewers on Tequila.net note the usual hints of vanilla, caramel and a little wood from the barrel over the base spirit, along with some alcohol heat, and the general verdict is that it is a mixing reposado rather than a sipper. At this price a 100% agave reposado gives a margarita or paloma a touch more roundness than a blanco.
